Brushing your pet’s teeth is the most effective way to remove
plaque. Plaque starts to form after
your pet eats and spreads over all tooth surfaces except those cleaned naturally by dietary abrasion.
Generally speaking, we recommend brushing as an important part of your pet’s oral hygiene program.
Human toothpaste can be harmful if your pet swallows it. It’s important to use products specifically
designed for animals. Oral rinses designed for cats and dogs are another alternative.
While not as effective as brushing, they provide a good method of killing bacteria and slowing the
accumulation of plaque.
